What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) aims to create individualised strategies for people living with disability that are responsive to the person’s needs, in a way that reduces or eliminates the need for regulated restrictive practices.

At National Positive Behaviour Support, we focus on understanding the underlying causes of Behaviours of Concern (BOC/Risk of harm behaviours) and developing practical, evidence-based strategies that promote wellbeing, emotional regulation, communication, independence, and participation in everyday life.

Our approach safeguards the dignity, rights, and quality of life for the people we support.

A Person-Centred Approach

At NPBS, we understand that every participant is unique.
Our Behaviour Support Practitioners take the time to understand:

  • The person’s strengths and goals
  • Environmental and communication factors
  • Sensory and emotional needs
  • Family and support dynamics
  • The function and purpose behind behaviours

We believe innovation in behaviour support comes from listening to participants and families, learning from feedback, and continually improving the way support is delivered.

Our goal is to create sustainable strategies that help participants thrive at home, school, work, and within the community.

NDIS

We are a registered NDIS provider. We work with participants with NDIS funding for “Improved Relationships” and “Behaviour Support”. We work closely with the participant, their families and support network, to develop a plan that can be followed to ensure a reduction of behaviours of concern, a reduction of restrictive practices, and improve their quality of life.
